If you’ve been searching for a really heavy weighted stuffed animal, you may have already discovered that most weighted plush don’t come in very heavy weights. That can make it especially difficult for adults and older teens who are looking for something larger and more substantial.

Our 24-inch weighted panda can be weighted up to 10 lbs with weight concentrated through the head and body, or up to 13 lbs with our full-body weighting option.

But what makes this panda feel so substantial isn’t just the number on the scale. Its wide body, large head, thick chunky arms and legs, and the way we distribute the weight all make a difference in how it feels when you actually hold it.

Why Size and Shape Matter in a Heavy Weighted Stuffed Animal

A 10 lb weighted stuffed animal can feel completely different from another 10 lb weighted stuffed animal depending on its size, shape, and where that weight is placed.

Our panda has a large, wide body that gives the weight plenty of room to spread out. Its head is substantial, and the thick arms and legs give the entire panda a big, soft, floppy feel.

When you hold it against you, it covers a large portion of your torso rather than putting all of that weight into one small area. The head and body settle against your shoulder and chest while the big arms can fall around you.

That shape is one of the things I love most about this panda. It doesn’t just sit on top of you. It settles into you and around you.

How We Distribute the Weight

The panda’s main weighting system uses four removable 2 lb casings: two in the head and two in the body.

We position the second head casing so that part of it falls slightly lower into the neck and chest area. This helps the weight flow more evenly from the head through the main body instead of feeling concentrated in separate areas.

That placement makes a noticeable difference when you hold the panda against you. You get a good amount of weight up on your shoulder while the rest settles against your chest and body.

The outer plush, fiberfill, and weighted pouches in the paws make up approximately another 2 lbs, bringing the panda to about 10 lbs with all four main casings inserted.

The paws are a little different from the rest of the panda. We use larger glass beads in the paw pouches to give them a more noticeable texture that can also be used as a hand fidget.

Want Even More Weight? Add the Weighted Limbs

For customers who want weight throughout the entire panda, our full-body option adds another 3 lbs to the arms and legs: a 1 lb weighted casing in each of the thicker legs and a ½ lb casing in each arm.

And those thick, chunky limbs make a big difference. There’s plenty of room for the weight to spread out while still being surrounded by soft fiberfill. Think of the soft, chubby, squishy feel of a baby’s arms and legs. That’s the kind of soft, substantial feel we aim for when weighting them.

I’ve found that long, narrow weighted limbs can sometimes become very dense and almost feel like cement when too much weight is packed into a small space. With this panda, the chunky arms and legs allow us to add weight without losing the soft, squishy feel that makes a stuffed animal so comforting to hold.

When you pick it up, you can really see and feel the difference. The substantial head and body settle into your arms while the thick weighted limbs naturally hang and drape. There’s something about the way the whole panda falls that reminds me of holding a big, soft, chubby baby.

What Does a 13 lb Weighted Stuffed Animal Feel Like?

At the full 13 lbs, this panda is heavy. But because that weight is spread from the head and chest through the body and out into the arms and legs, it doesn’t feel like a 13 lb lump sitting in one place.

You also don’t have to actively hold or hug it to feel the weight. Lay it across your lap or torso and let the panda settle naturally. Its wide body gives you a large weighted surface area, while the heavy head and floppy limbs fall with gravity and help the panda conform to your body.

This is one reason I don’t think you can judge a weighted stuffed animal by weight alone. Where those pounds are placed and how the stuffed animal is shaped can completely change how that weight feels.

Do You Really Want the Heaviest Weight?

Maybe, but you might be surprised by how heavy 10 or 13 lbs of dead weight actually feels.

We have customers who know they love a lot of weight and specifically seek out the heaviest weighted stuffed animals they can find. But if you haven’t held a stuffed animal this heavy before, don’t assume that heavier will necessarily feel better.

That’s one reason the four main 2 lb casings in our large panda are removable. The goal isn’t really to take them in and out all the time. Getting to the casings takes a little effort, and once you find the weight that feels right for you, you’ll probably want to leave it that way.

Instead, the removable casings give you the ability to find your preferred weight. If 10 or 13 lbs turns out to be more than you expected, you aren’t stuck with it. You can remove weight until you find the amount that feels comfortable to you.

And remember, the number on the scale doesn’t tell the whole story. Where the weight is placed and how it falls against your body can make a lower weight feel much more substantial than you might expect.

Heavy Weighted Stuffed Animals for Adults

A lot of adults are looking for weighted stuffed animals for themselves.

There are plenty of smaller, lightly weighted plush available, but the choices become much more limited when you start looking for something larger and heavier. Some adults already know they prefer substantial weight and specifically seek out 8 lb, 10 lb or even heavier weighted stuffed animals.

But wanting more weight shouldn’t mean giving up the softness and comfort that made you want a stuffed animal in the first place.

That balance is especially important to me when I’m weighting our larger animals. I want them to feel heavy, but I still want them to feel like stuffed animals.

That’s really what this panda is about.

10 lbs or the Full 13 lbs?

The 10 lb version is already a very substantial weighted panda. Most of the weight is concentrated through the large head and main body, where you really feel it against your shoulder, chest and torso.

The arms and legs are still thick, soft and floppy, so they naturally fall around you when you hold the panda. The paws also contain weighted bead pouches, which give the limbs just enough weight to drape nicely while providing that textured hand fidget.

For many people, 10 lbs may be exactly what they're looking for.

The 13 lb full-body option is for those who know they enjoy even more weight and especially like the feeling of weighted limbs. It adds a 1 lb casing to each of the thick legs and a ½ lb casing to each arm.

Both versions give you the same large, soft panda and that wonderful floppy, wrap-around feel. The difference is whether you want those arms and legs to simply drape around you or want the additional sensation of weight throughout the limbs.

Looking for Something Smaller?

If you love our large panda but want something smaller and easier to take along, we also have a 14-inch baby panda with adjustable weight up to 4 lbs.

Rather than weighting the smaller arms and legs, we concentrate the weight in the head and main body. A 1 lb removable casing weights the head, while two additional 1 lb casings are positioned through the body so the weight feels balanced and evenly distributed.

That concentrated weight makes this little panda feel surprisingly substantial, even at a lower overall weight. When you rest it against your shoulder and chest, the weight is concentrated right where you can feel it, so it doesn’t have to be extremely heavy to provide that comforting, grounding sensation.

The three removable casings also make the baby panda adjustable, so you can add or remove weight depending on what feels most comfortable. Its smaller size makes it a great option for travel, car rides, or anytime you want a weighted companion that’s easier to carry along.

And sometimes, the best reason for the smaller panda is simply so your little one can have a panda of their own.
